There are lots of hot songs out there that have come, gone, and that are yet to come. But in this day of manufactured stars, lost is the day when lyrical depth or deftness was the measure of the song.

Well, maybe not lost, but buried. I tried unearthing it a little bit and I dug up some priceless gems by Slick Rick, Big Pun, Gangstarr, Redman, Nas, AZ, Foxy Brown, Eminem, Xzibit, The Roots, KRS-One & Buckshot, Kool G-Rap, Big L, Talib Kweli, De La Soul, Jadakiss, Raekwon, Ghostface Killa, The Hieroglyphics, Little Brother, Rhymefest, Consequence, and more! Press play to join me on the excavation.

Enjoy!

The past few years have seen some of the hottest albums in Hip-Hop hit the streets. But most of you have either never heard them, or even heard of them, and that's a damn shame. You're not going to find the work of which I speak in the catalogues of Weezy, Hov, T.I. or Jeezy. Rather, how many of you know that KRS-ONE and Buckshot together put out one of the hottest albums of 2009? If you did, then holla'. If you've heard it, then holla' louder.

But if you haven't, then don't fret, I got you..and then some. This mix presented a struggle to stay in deejay mode and keep myself from stopping to listen to each song from start to finish. The beats, are infectious. The lyrics? FIYAH! But can we expect any less from these two? The playlist contains joints from their album "Survival Skills" as well some bangers each of them have put out over the past few years - most notably work Buckshot has done with 9th Wonder, and the Blastmaster's collaborations with Hip-Hop legend Marley Marl.

Again, it's a shame, but you won't hear most of these on the airwaves, ever. But after you press play, you'll be sure to ask why the hell not.

Enjoy!

"It's been a long time, I should'nt have kept you,
without a hot mix to step to..."

Hey everybody. Sorry for the long gap between Podcast episodes. This fall has been a crazy one, and I for one am ecstatic that I've finally had a chance to post something for you. I've been sitting on this in my head for a minute now and I'm glad it's finally out. To my Reggae & Dancehall fans, I also sincerely apologize. I know, it's been a particularly long stretch for you, and for me as well, so let's get into this Eargasm, and exhale.

CAUTION: If you are not a regae or dancehall fan, listening to this mix may cause you to consider that you've been wasting your life away all these years. Ask somebody.

Enjoy!

It's been almost a year since I broadcast my first artist compilation episode, "An Hour and Change with Hov." Insistent requests demanded a re-post earlier this year, and to this day it's still one of the most frequently listened to and downloaded podcasts.

I've been pretty busy in the past year...but then again, so has Jay-Z. Apparently, the man must have a family to feed or something because he has been on his grind hard, putting out banger after banger. It's with this, and again by popular demand, that I bring you "An Hour and Change with Hov Volume II: The Blueprint Edition."

This episode isn't called "The Blueprint Edition" lightly. Like the first episode, it's a journey through the man's extensive body of work, each song, though Hip-Hop, quite unique. And and of course, Hov's mastery at navigating the varied waters with his flow(s) never wavers. The list below only tells a fraction of the story. Press play and hear the rest.

Enjoy!

This comes hot off the press and fresh off the heels of the Biggie mix from a few weeks ago. I'll say this much - I had a much larger selection to choose from while recording this podcast. Strangely enough though, probably the same number of bangers.

In any case, I had a great time taking this ride with the consummate Gemini, Tupac Shakur. Over a litany of hot beats and some beautiful compositions, we've got tracks like "Thug Style", "Keep Ya Head Up", "Lie to Kick It", "Hit 'Em Up", "I Ain't Mad Atcha", "God Bless the Dead" (containing an eerily clairvoyant message to Biggie Smalls), "Dear Mama", "Enemies With Me", "Brenda's Got a Baby", "War Stories" and more.

My boy Paul said to me today "...[Tupac] was just misunderstood." Yes Paul, by many, I would agree. But I'd bet if folks just took a second...or in this case an hour to listen, they might find that they understand him a lot better than they thought. G'head. Press play and give it a try.

Enjoy!

I love reggae. This almost goes without saying. Dancehall. Roots. Lovers Rock. I even have a closet affinity for some of this new stuff my boy Smooth C calls "young boy jump-up chunes."

The podcast has been in part a testament to this fact, and this particular episode carries the baton with pride. This time, we take you through an hour or so or pure warm n' easy chunes. If you thought the One Drop was dead, I'm glad to dispell that notion for you. We're on a ride as we coast through riddims like the Zion Train, Cuss Fix, Obama...yes I said the Obama Riddim. Maybe a little tacky. At this point, perhaps cliche. But the riddim is FIYAH, seen?

We've also got The Promise Riddim with booom chunes by Cecile, Lady Saw, and more. The Soprano Riddim offers treats by the likes of Sizzla, not to mention "So Clean" by Admiral Tibet featuring a pair of killer verses in Kreyol! My Haitian massive, do not sleep on this!!!

Midway through we've also got the Cool Out, and Holding Firm riddims, which lead us into the Livewire, my 2nd favorite pat of the mix, featuring hits by Anthony B., Cecile, Gyptian, Jigsy King, Tony Curtis, and then some.

Spragga Benz headlines the Livication Riddim along with Bad Gal Bambi before the 9-5 Riddim takes us home with a host of artists, including Tony Rebel, and Bounty Killer. Clearly my favorite part of the mix. Let me know what yours is.

Enjoy!

It's been a while since I broadcast an episode. I took a trip abroad and when I came back, I suffered from jet-lag that lasted about two weeks, and severely affected my inspiration. But then I heard some Biggie on the radio. Problem solved.

Considering the compilation mixes I've done so far - Gangstarr..Nas...Jay-Z to name a few, it's really a wonder that this is the frst Notorious B.I.G. podcast. Sorry I kept you.

Do enjoy this hour and change of Biggie classics. If you like it, feel free to share with friends. Everybody should have a little Biggie on their iPod!

Unless you are a true Hip-Hop fan, the odds are high that you will not have heard a number of these songs on the radio. After you listen, they're equally as high that you'll wonder why.

These are not only some B-Sides, but some A-Sides of some of the hottest EmCees on the planet, hands down. From Wordsworth, to Odisee...The Roots...Pitch Black, to Skillz and Dilated Peoples...Jurassic 5, CunninLynguists and The Hieroglyphics to Little Brother and Mos Def. I mean...how can you front on cats who call themselves the CunninLynguists?

The list goes on and on. For me, this mix went particularly well with the anti-autotune kick I've been on. It hasn't been so much about the use of the vocoder on which Jay-Z has declared all out war; but the over all state of Hip-Hop/R&B & Reggae music in the latter half of this decade. Artists seem to have lost such a respect for their craft, it's positively underwhelming.

But recording this mix reminded me that the rotten few don't necessarily have to mess it up for everyone. Go 'head and take a listen. I think you'll see what I mean. Enjoy!

So, I've got a friend named Sonia who made a special request of me not too long ago. As she twirled her curls, she said "You know what I'd like to hear...some 90's reggae." Okay, she didn't really twirl her curls, but she did ask for some 90's chunes, and she didn't have to ask twice!

As reggae goes, I'm a 90's baby, so I really had a blast pulling all these classic tracks. 90's reggae should be a separate genre in and of itself. If you're a fan then you know what I'm talking about. They don't make chunes like Bounty's "Cellular Phone" anymore...or Buju's "Sensimillia Persecution"...Shabba's "Twice My Age," "Roots and Culture," or "Wicked Inna Bed"...Beres' "Show It Off". And how can we forget classic dance riddims like Quarter to Twelve, Mudd Up, Arab Attack, or Heartbeat.

It's all in there and much MUCH more. This mix is pure Bashment. Like a basement party on East 52nd and Tilden in Brooklyn in 1991 on a Friday night. Yeah...bashment like so.

Sonia, nuff luv, nuff respect, and thanks for the inspiration. Enjoy!

Marshall Mathers...Slim Shady...Eminem...three arguably dinstinct personas that have combined to create one of the most compelling forces in Hip-Hop today. With record breaking record sales, Grammy Awards, and and Oscar under his belt, the man came into the game a decade ago and changed the landscape.

Seen as a gimmick early on, Em quickly dispelled that perception and soon found himself peered with some of the best in the business. With his "Relapse" album set for release soon, this mix is a sort of hommage. And it can also serve as a reminder to folks who fogot that with Shady, the hype was real.

Not only a gifted emcee but producer as well, this podcast is aptly named, as it includes collaborative work with Em featured both in the booth, and behind the boards. The "best rapper alive" conversation is an old one, and has taken new dimensions with the radio-wave onslaught of Lil' Wayne. But I've always been, and will likely ever be hard pressed to see how Marshall Mathers isn't one of the first mentioned in that discussion. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

Enjoy!
